The Best Cleanser I’ve Ever Used ft. A Full Dermalogica Skincare Routine

Dermalogica
I’m in love with my new Dermalogica cleanser, and thought you’d like to know how I got on with a full routine from them…

The older I’m getting the more conscious I am of my skin – I think that’s true for everyone. The more I read into skincare (and I’m no expert by any means) the more I’m struck by the importance of a solid, usable regimen. I don’t really like fuss and frills to my skincare, so Dermalogica’s no nonsense packaging and easy to understand products really appeal to me.

I’m making no secret that I’m part of Dermalogica’s #skininfluencer campaign – which I think is really exciting. I’d never promote products that I’d not fully tried and didn’t truly love.

The Dermalogica UK team (thanks Lizzy!) kindly sent over a full range of products suited to my skin type to give ago – and now that I’ve tried them every day (and I mean every day – even when I really wanted to fall asleep with my makeup on) I feel that I can give you my thoughts – the good, the not quite for me and the absolutely bloody brilliant.

The products in my parcel were:

  • Dermalogica Biolumin-C Serum | £81.50 | Link
  • Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream | £36.00 | Link
  • Dermalogica Pre Cleanse Oil | £38.50 | Link
  • Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster | £44.00 | Link
  • Dermalogica Daily Resurfacer | £68.00 | Link
  • Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel | £32.00 | Link

In the evening, as my first step to a double cleanse, I start by using the Pre Cleanse Oil. This is designed to melt away impurities and makeup from the skin, and I was really pleased to find that it even works on waterproof mascara! Then I move onto using the Special Cleansing Gel – and at this point I feel that this product requires a full paragraph to itself:

This is the best… and I mean best cleanser I have ever used. I don’t say that lightly. I’ve compared this to other cleansers (Clinique, Kate Sommervile, Kiehl’s, Philosophy, Liz Earle and REN)  that I’ve tried and honestly nothing comes close!

This gel cleanser is designed to to wash away impurities without stripping the skin and making it feel tight and sore – which is something I’ve always struggled with. Often I find that while cleansers claim to be gentle, that’s not the case – I always get that horrible tight feeling on the dryer areas of my face (around my nose). This doesn’t happen with Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel, but yet my skin still feels beautifully clean. If you pick up nothing else based on this review – make sure you pick up this.

After that whistle stop tour, the next product in my routine is the Daily Resurfacer – used to exfoliate and smooth the skin. I have to admit, I don’t use this every day as it can be a little abrasive for me and alternate this between in the morning and in the evening. I’ve definitely found this to have made dramatic results to the texture of my skin! It’s much smoother and more even. Next, it’s on with the Skin Smoothing Cream and the Biolumin-C Serum (which I repeat in the morning). I find that I need something a bit more intense than the smoothing cream in the evening – but I adore the serum. I’m won over by the brightening affect of this and really love the texture – I would bathe in it if I could!

In the morning, I just use the Cleansing Gel as my first step and also apply my SPF50 – the most important step of all.

I’ve really enjoyed mixing up my skincare with Dermalogica’s products recently – and I can’t wait to try more. I can fully recommend their products, you just need to make sure you pick something that’s perfect for your skin type.
