Coloured Raine Eyeshadows

I love eyeshadow! I normally can’t resist buying palettes upon palettes, but at the moment my main preference is for single shadows due to their versatility and the fact that I can choose the exact shades I want. During my Beauty Bay haul, I picked up six Coloured Raine shadows (none of which are matte), as they were new to the U.K. – I’ve never tried any of their products but I’ve had my eye on their liquid lipstick in ‘Rockstar’ for ages, but it’s sadly never in stock (*sad face*). The colours of these shadows all looked stunning on the Beauty Bay website (you can find them here*) so I got very excited when I received my order to see they were even more so in person! I’m generally a warm toned gal and I picked up the shades : ‘Who, me?’, ‘Superstar’, ‘Pumpkin Pie’, ‘Intergalactic’, ‘Golden Olive’, ‘Flashing Lights’ (which is silver, unusual for me).

Coloured Raine Eyeshadow Review

Coloured Raine VS Makeup Geek

I’m going to take a moment here to compare these shadows to the Makeup Geek Foiled Shadows (MUG). As I didn’t purchase any matte Coloured Raine (CR) shadows I can’t say how I feel about those, but I would say that four out of the six eyeshadows I purchased (bar ‘Pumpkin Pie’ and ‘Intergalactic’ – I’ll talk about those later) were extremely comparable to the MUG foils. Both are in the same size pans, both have that ‘wet’ feeling to them (like they’re a cream/powder hybrid) and they are also incredibly pigmented. Personally I think that the Coloured Raine shadows just pip Makeup Geek to the post. I think they’re just a tad more pigmented (which is amazing as the MUG ones are already intense) and, for some unknown reason, crease less on me – and then there’s the price. For me, it all depends on the colours you want! I picked up colours that MUG didn’t do/I didn’t already own of theirs.

Coloured Raine Eyeshadow Shades

Superstar & Golden Olive

Coloured Raine Superstar, Golden Olive

Superstar is described as an ‘intense yellow gold with a metallic finish’ – this shade is stunning with a very strong colour pay-off, not an everyday shade but certainly beautiful. It is a vegan shade. Similar to MUG ‘Untamed’.

Golden Olive is described as a ‘metallic bronze.’ This description seems silly to me, as I think that the shade is exactly what it says on the tin – a goldy, olive green. It is a vegan shade and again, extremely pigmented.

Intergalactic & Who, me?

Coloured Raine Eyeshadows Intergalactic, Who, me?

Intergalactic is a ‘duo-chrome brown with a light blue sheen.’ This is obviously not a metallic/foiled shade so isn’t comparable in the same way, but I’d say it is just as creamy, but with a different finish. A stunning duo-chrome colour, hopefully the swatches below do it justice. This is a similar idea to MAC’s blue-brown pigment/MUG insomnia. It is also a vegan shade.

Who, me ? – a ‘metallic rose gold.’ Probably the most wearable out of the six shades and no less beautiful – I think this colour would appeal to the most people – again creamy and buttery! This shade is not vegan.

Pumpkin Pie & Flashing Lights

Coloured Raine Eyeshadows Pumpkin Pie, Flashing Lights

Pumpkin Pie is described as an ‘intense tangerine with a shimmery sheen.’ This shade is slightly different to the others as isn’t metallic and really this was the only one I was a tad disappointed in. In terms of texture, it’s far stiffer and not creamy at all – to the extent it almost feels dry (not that it isn’t pigmented). I still think the shade is stunning, just harder to build up; however, this dryer texture gives this shade some real staying power – a shade that stays put throughout a days wear. Pumpkin Pie is a vegan shade.

Flashing Lights – ‘a vivid metallic sliver’ that is vegan. This is a very different shade for me – frankly I don’t wear sliver on the eyes, I’m much more of a gold person. Nonetheless, this shade is honestly the STAND-OUT one to me, it’s so brilliantly pigmented and buttery it’s untrue!

Coloured Raine Eyeshadow Swatches

In the swatches below hopefully you can see the how pigmented the colours are. Each eyeshadow is just one wipe of the colour (apart from Pumpkin Pie – which is two). I’ve included a gif of the swatches so you can see how the duo-chrome colour performs – apologies that the swatch of Pumpkin Pie looks rather red, the picture swatch is more accurate and true to colour.

You can see how stunning the colours are – especially ‘Flashing Lights,’ the way it catches the light is beautiful. I would really recommend picking up the metallic shades that Coloured Raine has to offer – they are amazing!

Have you picked up any gems recently? Thanks for reading…
